Rocking Star Residence – Ouray County, Colorado
This modern house is in ever-changing conversation with its stunning mountain site. The house expresses the simple industrial materials from which it was made. Concrete and steel will rust and stain over time while glass reflects the dynamic shadows and light of the changing seasons. A raw steel frame carries the roof plane sixteen feet beyond the south glass wall, providing mountain views without glare and heat-gain in summer. In winter, sun is admitted to warm the concrete floor, storing heat for nighttime. Oversize glass doors can be cast open to unite indoor and outdoor living. The simple shapes were formed in response to the program, site and the predictable flow of water & wind over time, resulting in a house that foresees virtually zero maintenance.
