This 2500 sq ft home on a steep wooded lot is arranged around the primary view axis to Sneffels Peak, which was carefully set between two large “gunsight” trees. As a retirement home, the owners required that all primary functions exist on the main level. The walk-out lower level contains a large workshop, office, living/kitchenette and extra sleeping quarters. An extension of the main roof provides summer shade for the large windows of the greatroom, while also sheltering outdoor living on the expansive deck. Rustic, substantial materials counterpose contemporary detailing and an open plan, which satisfied both the subdivision HOA and the owner’s desire for a modern home.
